1,666 persons on Nevis benefited from SS COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund

Nevis’ Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley.

He spoke concerning the Social Security’s COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund.

The Fund was created to assist all working persons whose incomes have been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In partnership with the Labour Department, the Social Security facilitated the payment of up to EC$ 1,000.00 monthly for three months in the first instance (April, May and June).

Beneficiaries of the fund include: Full time and part-time employees who have been laid off, employed but with reduced hours, persons made redundant as a result of the pandemic and registered Self-employed persons, whose income is impacted by the virus.

The amount paid out from April to June stood at approximately $22 million dollars, according to Director of the Social Security Board, Mr. Antonio Maynard.

Back in June, Mr. Maynard stated that over 2,000 duplicated applications were discovered by the Board’s compliance department. As a result, Premier Brantley made this plea to the public.
