Consultant gives update on Nevis’ Nelson Spring Rehabilitation Project here on Nevis

Consultant of the Nevis Nelson’s Spring Rehabilitation Project – Ms. Jenny Lowrey, gave an update concerning the restoration of the Nelson’s Spring Wetlands. 

 

The project, conducted over the last few months, is part of a larger initiative executed by ‘Integrated Water, Land Ecosystems Management in the Caribbean Small Island Developing States or IWECO through the executing agency: the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society or NHCS.  

 

The project was launched on February 26th, 2019 and is being implemented over a three-year period. 

  

Ms. Lowrey published her report on the NHCS quarterly newsletter.  

 

The report featured pictures on the restoration of the wetlands, such as: the removal of the invasive cattail species, the planting of indigenous seedlings and the two day community cleanups in partnership with the St. Thomas’ Improvement Group: one on January 31st and the other on March 13th, 2021. 

 

The project title is: “Addressing Impacts of Acute Land Degradation in College Street Ghaut in St. Kitts and Quarries and Sand Mining Hotspots on Nevis”.
