Minister of Culture hopeful of establishing a world heritage site in Nevis

Two British World Heritage Specialists, Mr. Barry Gamble and Mr. Paul Simons, currently on a 10 day visit, saw historical sites Bath hotel, Bath Stream and remains of The Fort Charles as potential UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

In a meeting prior to the visit, the specialists were welcomed to the island and the discussion surrounded the architectural designs and conditions of the sites. Those in attendance were the Minister of Culture the Honorable Eric Evelyn, Minister of Physical Planning and Environment the Honorable Spencer Bran, Chairperson of the World Heritage site Committee Mrs. Evelyn Henville, Dr. Ernie Stapleton, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Communication and Works; and Mr. Keith Glasgow, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture.

In an interview with the VONNEWSLINE Minister Evelyn gave this feedback on the meeting with the specialists.

Currently the government is in the process of launching a Reclamation and Protection Project at Fort Charles to restore its architecture and slow down the erosion caused by the sea.
