PM Harris delivers speech at Crime Reduction conference

Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris delivered an impactful and thought-provoking speech today, Thursday, February 9th, 2017, during the opening session of a National Crime Reduction Symposium at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

 

Prime Minister Harris, stated that the symposium “is an example of the continuing commitment of the government to do all that is necessary and reduce criminal activity in the Federation.”

 

It was organized by the Ministry of National Security and co-sponsored by the Coalition of Support for St. Kitts-Nevis Security Initiatives (CSSKNSI), its longtime benefactor and partner in the fight against crime.

 

The National Security Minister said that, “Families are placed to raise healthy and responsible members of society, but the task of putting children first goes beyond the family to include communities and society. Crime prevention must focus on improvements in the economic, social and family structures, but we must ask in all of this ‘What is the role of the church?’”.

 

The one-day symposium focused on Uprooting Crime & Violence and featured crime reduction specialist and social skills consultant, Dr. Neals Chitan is presently in the federation, working with the Team Unity Government, to assist in the fight against crime.
