Transport Board to look into bus operators grievances
February 23, 2017

“The Transport Board here in St. Kitts and Nevis is expected to make recommendations only then will the Minister of Public Infrastructure get involved”.

That was the message Minister of Public Infrastructure the Hon. Ian Liburd.

Minister Liburd was commenting on an issue of planned industrial action by Bus operators plying all routes in St. Kitts, which was to have taken place on Monday 20th February.

Minister Liburd indicated that “the issues of the bus drivers and the taxi drivers are being addressed through the dictates of the legislation”, that is the Vehicles and Road Traffic Act and subsidiary legislation.

He said, that piece of legislation calls for a Traffic Safety and Public Service Board, which has all of its members appointed.

He said “The board is also mandated to advise the Minister of transport rates, fares, tolls, dues and other charges, and that he would await that advice from the Board in terms of dealing with the issues.
