Six charged for firearms and ammunition seized in Police raid in Rawlins Village

Six men who were picked up by Police in connection with the seizure of two firearms and a cache of ammunition here in Nevis on Thursday April 20th, have had charges laid against them.


They are Twenty-two (22) year old Terito Browne and Clijuarn Henry of Rawlins Village and Seleam Chiverton of Brick Kiln, Twenty-three (23) year old Shavon Lawrence of Rawlins Village, Twenty-four (24) year old Scott Carey of Rawlins Village and Thirty-one(31) year old Caldre Chapman of Cookds Ground Gingerland.


They have been charged for Possession of Firearms and Possession of an assortment of Ammunition.


A joint unit of police officers and Defense Force personnel were on patrol in Rawlins Village when they carried out a search of the men and the area around them.


During the search they found a 357 Magnum revolver and ten rounds of matching ammunition, an MP 11- 9mm submachine gun and 22 rounds of matching ammunition, and nineteen rounds of 7.62 rounds of rifle ammunition.


Also seized during the search were a mask, small quantity of marijuana and other small items.


According to a Police spokesman the firearms are undergoing forensic testing to determine if they had been used in any gun related incidents.

Meantime,


Several persons have been picked up for questioning as Police continue their investigation into the shooting incident which resulted in the death of Cotton Ground resident 28-year-old Morella Webbe, and injuries to 34 –year old Sonia Grant also of Cotton.

 

The incident is reported to have taken place in the early hours of Monday 17th April (Easter Monday) in Cotton Ground.

 

No charges have yet been laid in connection with that incident.

 

Webbe’s death is the 3rd recorded homicide here on Nevis so far this year and the 7th in the Federation.
