Bath Bridge closed after severe erosion by heavy rains
May 16, 2017

The Bath Stream Bridge “is no longer safe to cross”.

That’s according to Junior Minister in the Ministry of Communication and Works, the Hon. Troy Liburd. This came after officials from the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), realized the structural failure of critical sections of the Bridge were damaged.

Minister Liburd said, “During the next few weeks all traffic across the bridge will be halted because of the damage to the bridge. The bridge is no longer safe for us to cross.”

Additionally, he blamed heavy rains on Thursday May 11th, for destabilizing the bridge’s structure but assured that the Public Works Department had already engaged in surveys with a view to commence repairs in the quickest time possible.

Meantime, Director of Public Works  Raoul Pemberton said the bridge was damaged due to excessive erosion of the foundation area of the bridge support, mainly in the central area.

Mr. Pemberton added that the Department had already started its analysis on the best course of action.
