Minister Grant says South Frigate Bay Enhancement Project on “De Strip” continues to progress
May 25, 2017

Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Lindsay Grant, stated on May 23rd that refurbishment of the South Frigate Bay Area, specifically in the region of “De Strip”, continues to progress and efforts are being made for the area to realize its full potential.

“De Strip” is home to around twelve (12) business establishments, each offering entertainment, tropical beach bars and restaurants.

Despite its current popularity, Minister Grant said that development of the strip was “not as deliberate as it could have been.” He further stated that there have been concerns regarding the safety and the security of patrons and operators and there was definitely room for improvement.

Therefore, the Ministry of Tourism commissioned a report by APLOMB360, which provided an analysis of the existing conditions.

The South Frigate Bay Enhancement Project was commissioned in November 2016 to revive the strip experience, making it more feasible and sustainable by improving its infrastructure, security, and identity.

The Tourism Minister noted that the total cost for the project, (to be done in two to three phases at the start) is approximately $3,227,694, of which the federal government has put in $2 million and the Caribbean Development fund (CDF) has given a donation of $1, 227,795.
