June 16, 2017

A contingent of six (6) youth parliamentarians will represent Nevis at the 42nd Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic Region, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference Regional Youth Parliamentary Debate on St. Kitts, on June 23rd 2017.

The debate, which began today (June 16th), will be held at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium (St. Kitts) and is part of f the CPA.

Youth Parliamentarians, Celestial Hanley, Delcia Burke, Britney Simmonds, Lekiah Lescott, Lauren Lawrence and Devonne Cornelius will debate a Bill on the topic, “Protection of Migrant Workers”.

President of the Nevis Island Assembly, the Hon. Farrell Smithen, urged Nevisians to support the contingent at the CPA conference. Mr. Smithen, says the topic is appropriate, due to the movement of persons in the region from one place to another.

It is understood, that the youth parliamentarians would be giving an account of the reasons for the movement of people and the problems some countries face as a result. A contingent participated in the Bahamas in 2016, in Tortola in 2015 and in Barbados 2014.
