DPP COMMENTS ON THE SERIOUSNESS OF JURY TAMPERING OFFENCE

A number of violent crimes have been committed here in the Federation in recent times.

This has been reflected in the number of matters before the High Court, both in St. Kitts and Nevis, and authorities are hoping to aggressively prosecute those matters in the coming months.

Here on Nevis, one matter which has attracted much attention is the murder trial involving five young men.

The matter was traversed to the April 2006 Assizes, following a mis-trial which was declared by resident Judge Justice Iantea Leithwood Octave, following accusations of Jury Tampering.

Two persons have been arrested and charged in connection with the offence.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Dennis Merchant, has been commentied that the offence is extremley seriousness.

He stated that acts like these impeded the flow of court cases and is hopeful that at the April assizes and agreement can be reached.
