FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION REPS VISITS THE FEDERATION

A two-man mission from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is currently here in the Federation.

The visit is part of an OAS Project aimed at assisting developing countries identify “special and sensitive” products.

Deep Ford and Hansdeep Khaira, have been charged with consulting with ministry officials, farmers and food processors in the Federation.

A half day workshop held was held, to provid insights into the criteria set out by the World Trade Organization for identification of such agricultural products.

The products identified as special and sensitive, will be eligible for more flexible treatment in the current DOHA Round of negotiations, which is scheduled to end in 2006.
