November 30th marks the official end of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Every year, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th.

In terms of the forecast for the season, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced there was a 60 percent likelihood of the hurricane season being above average. NOAA’s forecast anticipated 14 to 21 named storms.

But what were the impacts for us in SKN? In September, Hurricane Lee passed Northeast of SKN, with winds of up to 150 mph, but did not significantly impact our nation, according Met Officials in St. Kitts.

On October 3rd, Tropical Storm Philippe passed near St. Kitts and Nevis. However, Met and disaster officials reported “no major/significant damage” occurred in St. Kitts and “minimal damage” on Nevis. Later on in October, following the passage of Hurricane Tammy authorities reported that roads were damaged across Nevis and flooding occurred. However, there was no loss of life in general.

Additionally, VON Radio 860AM hosted its “Ahead of the Storm” program, to keep the public abreast of the storm activity, Monday to Saturday at 6:50am, 11:50am and 5:50pm.
