2024 edition of “Mini Olympics” will be held (today) April 3rd

Nevis’ largest single day event, the Gulf Insurance Ltd/BONI sponsored inter-primary championship, otherwise known as “Mini Olympics”, will be held (today) Wednesday Apr. 3rd, at the Nevis Athletics Stadium also known as the (Mondo Track), in Long Point.

 

 

 

Nine schools will vie for championship honours. They are: EPPS, MCPS, VOJN, JLPS, STPS, IWPS, SJPS, Nevis Academy and the defending champions, CPS. A spokesperson for the meet told the VONNEWSLINE that the Montessori Academy, will not be participating this year. Today is also a public half-holiday on Nevis, from 12 noon.

 

 

 

In relation to parking arrangements for the event, Divisional Commander for District C (Nevis) of the Police Force, Superintendent Alonzo Carty, gave this piece of information:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Persons are also advised that spectators will not be allowed to park on the hill area on the eastern side of the field. He mentioned areas for exits:

 

 

 

 

 

 

For security, Mr. Carty said there will be strong police presence at the Championship meet to ensure the safety of all persons. All rest days have been suspended for officers, in order to have enough officers to cover the event, while at the same time providing coverage in the various communities around Nevis.

 

 

 

SKNDF (St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force) and private security companies will be working in tandem with the police to provide additional manpower. The event is scheduled to start at 11 am, with the first event (the grade 5 and 6 girls weight throw) slated for 11:30 am.

The voice of Nevis’ Director of Sports, Mr. Jamir Claxton as he spoke about the seating arrangements for (today) Wednesday.

 

 

 

Due to the heavy downpour of rain last year that caused an interruption during the meet, Mr. Claxton said additional preparations were put in place in the event of rain this year:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Additionally, the Ministry of Education has released a new feature to allow viewers home and abroad to be kept up-to-date throughout the meet.

 

 

 

The ministry launched its new Digital Flipbook Feature which houses information relating to the schedule, scores, guidelines and athletes of the meet. It will also allow users to access ticket, parking and entrance information as well as pictures and other highlights from the meet.
