26 participate in the Girls Climate Summit 

On Thursday, June 30th, twenty-six (26) individuals participated in the Girls Climate Summit at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park.

 

The Summit was organized by the Nevis Department of Youth in collaboration with the Girls Care-Climate Action for Resilience and Empowerment (Girls Care) mentees. 

 

Girls Care’s mission, according their website “is to empower women and girls as advocates for climate action that safeguards the economic, social and environmental rights of women in adaptation and resilience-building efforts nationally.” 

 

The Girls Care mentees, come from islands around the region such as: the Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts & Nevis and Trinidad & Tobago. 

 

The attendees of the summit included members from the Environmental Club of the Cayon High School, Green Ambassadors, Youth Impact 12 Awardees, Teens of the 25 Most Remarkable Teens Program, Youth Development Officers and Marine Officers. 

 

The attendees discussed important issues such as Loss and Damage, Climate Adaptation & Mitigation along with Climate Justice and was presented in a youth-friendly form.

 

A jingle competition as well as a paint and sip activity also took place. 

 

Only biodegradable materials were used during the entirety of the summit.
