2nd quake in four days of over 3.0 magnitude occurs

Another quake of over 3.0 magnitude occurred near Basseterre, St. Kitts on Saturday May 3rd, making it the second in four days.

 

The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC), said the 3.9 magnitude quake took place at 7:05pm local time, occurring 121 km North of Basseterre, at a depth 134 km.

 

Its coordinates were: latitude: 18.39 degrees N longitude: 62.78 degrees W. St. Kitts coordinates are latitude: 17.35 degrees North, longitude: 62.78 degrees West.

 

Also, it was recorded 175 kilometres North-West of Saint John’s, Antigua & Barbuda, and 188 kilometres North-Northwest of Brades, Montserrat.

 

Additionally, a 5.6 quake occurred on Sunday near the US and British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and surrounding islands, with multiple felt reports. The last quake occurred near Basseterre on Tuesday Apr. 29th, with a magnitude of 3.5. About 15 days prior to Saturday’s quake, a 5.2 quake occurred on Good Friday Apr. 18th.
