3.5 magnitude quake occurs near SKN

Following a quake that occurred near St. Kitts & Nevis on Sunday morning April 16th, with a magnitude 5.5, reports have indicated that later on that evening, another quake occurred.

 

 

 

The UWI Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC) says it occurred at 11:56pm local time, with a magnitude of 3.5, located at Latitude: 16.66 degrees N, Longitude: 61.91 degrees W, depth of 16 km.

 

 

 

It took place 115 km, SE of Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, 50 km, S, St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda 61 km NW of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

 

 

 

Over the last weekend, a few Earthquakes were recorded in the Caribbean. On Saturday afternoon Apr. 15th, an earthquake estimated to be between a 5.1 and 5.4 magnitude rattled Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba and the United States Minor Outlying Islands.

 

 

 

It is said to have been located 55 kilometers from Kingston, Jamaica, in the Caribbean Sea. The effects of the earthquake were reported as minor, with no major damage caused.
