3.7 magnitude quake recorded near St. Kitts, 2nd for the month

The 2nd quake to have occurred near Basseterre, St. Kitts, for the month of October, was recorded on the 19th, according to information from the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre (UWI, SRC)

 

UWI SRC said the 3.7 magnitude quake occurred at 12:50 pm (local time) and was located at latitude 17.89 degrees N and longitude 62.49 degrees W, at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface.

 

The quake’s epicenter was situated 71 kilometers North-East of Basseterre. It also occurred 112 km North-West Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda and 125 km, North-North West, Brades, Montserrat,

 

On Oct. 13th, a 4.1 magnitude quake was recorded near Basseterre. An earthquake of 3.8 strength occurred on Saturday evening Oct. 26th, near Roseau, Dominica.

 

In previous times, UWI-SRC has addressed questions as to “why the earthquakes occur often in the region?” by stating “this is normal activity…. And the “area is one of our more active seismic areas so this is expected”.
