A quake was recently recorded near St. Kitts, according to information from the University of the West Indies-Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC).
The 3.7 quake took place on Friday Feb 21st, at 10:25 am (SKN’s time) and occurred 75 km North-North East Basseterre.
It occurred at a depth of 10 km and its coordinates was Latitude 17.94 degrees N, Longitude: 62.51 degrees W. St. Kitts coordinates are latitude: 17.35 N, longitude: 62.78 W.
Other nearby cities included: Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda and Brades, Montserrat. There were no felt reports. It comes about 30 days after a 3.7 quake was recorded near Basseterre on Jan. 20th.
The reason for the quakes are, according to UWI SRC “in general, the two busiest zones within the Lesser Antilles arc are the Antigua-Barbuda zone and the north of Paria peninsula zone.”
