4.6 quake occurs near Basseterre, St. Kitts, 3rd in one week

Another 4.6 quake was recorded near St. Kitts, two days after a quake of the same magnitude occurred.

 

Information from the University of the West Indies-Seismic Research Centre (UWI-SRC), indicates that the quake took place at 12:53am on Saturday Mar. 29th, at a depth of 81km.

 

It was located at Latitude: 18.06 degrees North, Longitude: 63.12 degrees West and took place 94km Northwest of Basseterre.

 

Other nearby cities included: Saint John’s, Antigua and Barbuda and Brades, Montserrat. This was the third quake to occur during the week of Mar. 23rd to the 29th. One of the same magnitude was recorded near Basseterre, on Thursday Mar. 27th. Before that, a 4.0 magnitude quake was recorded north of Basseterre on Sunday Mar. 23rd.

 

As the Eastern Caribbean is a seismically active region, UWI and other experts continue to encourage the public to remain prepared for any potential earthquake.
