54 year old New Road Resident SKN’s latest homicide victim

One woman was gunned down on Tuesday evening July 23rd in St. Kitts. In an update, at approximately 7:58 pm, police received a report of a shooting incident at New Road Housing. Several Police units were dispatched. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of Sandra Roberts, a 54-year-old resident of New Road Housing, lying on the road outside her home.

 

 

 

A press release said Ms. Roberts had just arrived home and parked her vehicle on an empty lot located on the eastern side of her residence. As she exited her vehicle and proceeded towards her house, she was confronted by two masked gunmen who emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire. Ms. Roberts sustained multiple gunshot wounds to her body and head, resulting in her death at the scene. The District Medical Officer attended the scene and pronounced her death.

 

 

 

The body was removed and kept pending an autopsy. Four men have been arrested and are in custody, assisting the Police as the investigation continues.

 

 

 

The incident comes in the heels of SKN recording a surge in gun violence, when two young men were gunned down on Friday July 19th and Saturday July 20th. The federation’s murder count now stands at 19 for 2024.

 

 

 

Meantime, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Nevis’ Premier Mark Brantley, issued a statement on Facebook following the incident and mentioned “I extend deepest condolences to the family of Sandra Roberts and to our brothers and sisters in St. Kitts. When you mourn, we all mourn. I urge anyone having any information to contact the Police and help us apprehend those responsible. I extend to the Government the fullest support and cooperation of the Parliamentary Opposition as we grapple with this cancer of violence within our midst.
