“As a consequence of the serious nature of the continued threat of the COVID-19 pandemic to the public health of Saint Christopher and Nevis…it is necessary to extend the State of Emergency (SOE) from the 19th of October, 2020 until the 31st of December, 2020”
That’s according to a release from the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis.
The extension was approved by the National Assembly on Thursday, October 15th, 2020.
The Governor-General first declared a State of Emergency for Saint Christopher and Nevis on March 28th, 2020. Since then it has been extended.
The previous extension of the SOE was from 17th April, 2020 and lasted for up to six months on 18th October, 2020.
A State of Emergency (SOE) is a situation in which a government is empowered to perform actions or impose policies that it would normally not be permitted to undertake.
A government can declare such an SOE during a natural disaster, medical pandemic (such as the COVID-19 pandemic) etc.
