Temporary suspension of Liquor licenses not “an attack on small business”

A purported attack on small businesses has come to the fore, pertaining to the sale of alcohol in St. Kitts & Nevis, as health authorities implemented a temporary suspension on retail licenses.

According to the current Statutory Rules and Orders (SRO’s) No. 24 of 2021, “Notwithstanding the provisions of the Liquor Licenses Act. Cap, 18.21, all retail liquor licenses are suspended.” This applies to both St. Kitts & Nevis.

But in seeking to explain that the abovementioned attack is not so, Member of the National Covid-19 Task Force, Superintendent of Police, Cromwell Henry, said the measure is not a prohibition on alcohol consumption.
