“With God’s Blessings, we are all safe”.
Those were the words from His Excellency Donya Francis, St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan) shortly after reports of the impacts of a massive earthquake rocking the island.
On Sunday, September 18th, Taiwan was hit by a 6.9-magnitude earthquake leaving at least one person dead and 146 injured.
According to the BBC, it was the strongest of several tremors over the past three days, with another 5.6-magnitude earthquake on Monday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister of Education, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley reached out to His Excellency and confirmed the safety of the Federations students and nationals in Taiwan.
In a comment on the situation, he was quoted as saying “We continue to ask God to cover our students pursuing their studies abroad and we especially pray for the safety and well-being of all of our nationals and students currently in Taiwan.”
