NHCS receives funding from AFCP to begin conservation of Bath Hotel
The Nevis Historical & Conservation Society (NHCS) has received funding through the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) to commence the urgent conservation of the Bath Hotel on Nevis. An official grant signing ceremony was held at the Bath Hotel Tuesday, November 2nd at 10am.
The Bath Hotel, located just south of Nevis’ capital, Charlestown, was built around 1800. In its heyday during the colonial plantation era, it was an elegant hotel with a two-storey bath house just below it; it served as a playground for the wealthy planters of Nevis and the entire Caribbean, who flocked to its therapeutic hot spring waters. Director of the NHCS, is Ms. Jahnel Nisbett.
Ms. Nisbett told the VONNEWSLINE that the Conservation project is not connected with the Bath Hotel, becoming a world heritage site.
