Traffic officials continue to record accidents in both St. Kitts and Nevis. For the period, Aug. 24th to Aug 31st, several accidents have occurred in places such as: near Stoney Grove and on Pump Road, Nevis, Sundance Ridge (Southeast Peninsula) as well as Newtown, St. Kitts.

One occurred on Aug. 31st, between 2:00pm and 2:30pm on East Street, Newtown, it involved motor car P – 4178, which was being driven by Devon Johnson of Pond’s Extension, at the time, and one (1) 8-year-old pedestrian. Investigations indicate that Mr. Johnson was travelling south when the juvenile pedestrian ran from behind a parked vehicle and the collision occurred.

The juvenile complained of pain to the entire left side of the body. The mother was issued with medical form.

In its efforts to help reduce the number of accidents, recently, traffic officials urged the general public to practice “Defensive driving”. This refers to the practice of drivers who consciously reduce the dangers associated with driving. Defensive driving techniques reduce the likelihood of a collision or incident. The main cause for traffic accidents this year and others past, was persons driving at excessively high speeds, lawmen say. To date, SKN has five (5) road fatalities for 2023.
