2024 World Water Day observed in SKN

“Water for Peace” is the 2024 theme for World Water Day. World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance held on the 22nd of March that highlights the importance of fresh water.

This year’s theme according to unicef.org, “is a reminder that water is not only a resource to be used and fought over, but also a human right, intrinsic to all aspects of life.”

As such, Minister of Water Services, the Hon. Konris Maynard, in an address on Water Day, explained that the demand for water in St. Kitts is 6 million gallons per day, while the supply capacity is about 5 million gallons per day:

But what is being done about the water situation on Nevis?

NIA (Nevis Island Administration) plans to drill six wells in total, for its Water Drilling project. It is the Government’s hope that by the end of the 2nd quarter of 2024, that the drilling is completed for the first three wells.

The project will cost over EC $5 million. In an update earlier this month, Premier the Hon. Mark Brantley, said the Bidding Process has been concluded.
