The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has issued a statement, condemning statements made by former Prime Minister and PLP’s Leader, Hon. Dr Timothy Harris, regarding the handling of Azziwah ‘Milk’ Niles-Jones murder investigation and communication with the victim’s family.
Niles-Jones, 42, who was the Party’s Chairman for the Central Basseterre (St. Christopher #2) constituency group, was gunned down along the Island’s Main road at Holland Ghaut, outside Keys Village, St. Kitts, on Aug. 20th 2024: SKN’s 25th murder for the year.
Police said in a statement (and I quote): “we must unequivocally condemn the accusations of neglect leveled against our officers by the former Prime Minister. These allegations not only misrepresent the facts but also undermine the dedicated efforts of our officers who tirelessly work to resolve cases and support affected families.”
Dr. Harris indicated during the PLP’s Oct. 16th press conference, that the family of the deceased has not received any update on the murder investigation.
However, lawmen said “since the tragic incident, our investigating officers established and have maintained multiple lines of communication with Mr. Niles-Jones’ family”, which include home visits and individual discussions with family members, some of which “were rescheduled at their request due to the extreme emotional difficulty with which they are faced.”The Police Force urged “public figures to exercise strict caution in their statements.”
