Premier’s Ministry issues statement addressing mold-related concerns at Nevis High Court Registry & other gov’t facilities
Premier’s Ministry issues statement addressing mold-related concerns at Nevis High Court Registry & other gov’t facilities
Following reports of mold at the High Court Registry and other government facilities on Nevis, the Premier’s Ministry within the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) issued a statement, addressing recent social media postings.
“We assure the public that we take these issues seriously and are actively working to promptly and effectively address any legitimate mold-related concerns raised by our staff”, the statement said.
Though the High Court Registry does in fact, have mold, in response, the Premier Ministry stated “we have hitherto relocated staff and engaged in remedial work at the Registry. We only returned staff to that site once the testing showed it was safe to do so.”
As it relates to other government facilities, the statement mentioned “we (the Premier’s Ministry) recognize however that mold is a naturally occurring phenomenon and that old buildings are especially prone to mold. As a result, we have since engaged professional remediation services and have been coordinating regular air quality assessments in partnership with the Bureau of Standards on St. Kitts.”
Following the recommendations of these experts, five dehumidifiers have been installed in the High Court Registry offices to enhance remediation efforts. Additionally, the Cabinet on Nevis has taken the decision that all government buildings and offices “will now be subject to regular deep cleaning and testing for mold, with test results to be shared with staff.”
