A woman has been charged for the offence of Conveying Contraband into His Majesty’s Prison.
Meldesha Woods of Stapleton Village, St. Kitts, committed the offence on Friday March 7th, in Basseterre. Ms Woods was charged the following day, Saturday March 8th, at the Basseterre Police Station.
She was attempting to carry vegetable material into the prison. Further examinations confirmed it was Cannabis and Tobacco.
In other news- several persons have been charged by police, which are Cannabis related recently. Leroy Liburd of Hermitage and Zadique Butler of King Street, both in Cayon, St. Kitts, have each been charged with Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply.
Their charges stem from the execution of a search warrant at Mr. Liburd’s premises by officers of the Anti-Narcotics and Special Services Units of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force; Soldiers from the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force; and officers from the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs and Excise K-9 Unit on March 3rd. The search led to the discovery of a large quantity of vegetable material suspected to be cannabis and later confirmed as such. Mr Liburd and Mr Butler, both present during the search, were arrested and shortly thereafter charged at the Basseterre Police Station.
Also, Miles Walters of Cotton Ground, Nevis, has been charged with the offence of Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply. The offence was committed on March 4th at Montpelier, Nevis.
During the execution of a search warrant at a Montpelier residence by officers of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts – Nevis Defence Force, a quantity of vegetable material, later confirmed to be cannabis, was discovered.
The Crime Scene Unit processed the scene and collected some items of evidential value. Mr Walters, who was on the premises during the search, was subsequently taken into custody and charged at the Cotton Police Station.
Elsewhere, Makeel Marryshaw of Shear Lane, Basseterre, has received a sentenced of nine (9) years at His Majesty’s Prison for the offence of Robbery.
The criminal offence was committed on March 5th 2022, at Princes Street, Basseterre, and Mr. Marryshaw was charged on April 5th 2022, and remanded to the Prison.
He pleaded guilty to the charge on January 21st, 2025. He was then sentenced on March 6th, 2025 by His Lordship Justice Iain Morley, KC, at the High Court in Basseterre.
By means of the sentencing guidelines, time spent on remand will count towards his sentence.
