Suspected drowning at South Friars Bay, St. Kitts under investigation
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) is investigating a suspected drowning that occurred on July 12th, 2025, at South Friars Bay, St. Kitts.
At approximately 12:15pm, the Frigate Bay Police Station received a report from an employee at Shipwreck Beach Bar regarding an unresponsive female on the beach. Officers responded promptly and arrived to find a woman lying near the shoreline while bystanders rendered CPR. Emergency Medical Services also responded but, despite their efforts, were unable to revive her.
The deceased has been identified as Rita McNally of Olathe, Kansas, USA, age seventy-four. Ms. McNally was visiting the Federation along with other family members from South Carolina, all of whom were guests of the Marriott Vacation Club. Preliminary investigations revealed that the group arrived at Shipwreck around 11:30 a.m. and began snorkeling. Around 12 PM., Ms. McNally reportedly expressed difficulty with the activity and returned to shore while the others continued snorkeling.
Upon their return, they found CPR being administered to Ms. McNally, who was unresponsive. Ms. McNally was pronounced deceased at the scene. No signs of foul play were observed, and an autopsy has been recommended to determine the exact cause of death.
