SKNDF responds to Search and Rescue Call involving MV Addie K

A Search and Rescue (SAR) operation was conducted on Sunday, July 27th, 2025 by the Coast Guard of the St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force (SKNDF) following a distress report by the motor vessel, Addie K, a Ro-Ro ship that is a vessel designed to carry vehicles and passengers, registered under the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The vessel had run aground in the waters between Sandy Point and Newtown Ground and was reportedly taking on water. Reports suggest that the vessel experienced difficulties, causing the incident. Coast Guard personnel were promptly dispatched and arrived on the scene to find the ship in a vulnerable condition.

Upon assessment, immediate action was taken to stabilize the situation, dewatering was done to bring water levels to the bilge and prevent further risk of sinking or capsizing.

Personnel also assisted with emergency repairs, offloading cargo to reduce weight and prepare for towing where once on shore further inspection and repairs would take place. No injuries were reported.

The SKNDF in a post stated that the situation is under control and that it “remains committed to safeguarding lives and property at sea, responding quickly to emergencies, and ensuring maritime safety for all.”
