The St. Kitts and Nevis Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has announced its Discounted VAT Rate Days for the Back-to-School Season in August.

The discounts will take place (today) Friday 15^th and Saturday 16^th August. VAT on eligible goods will be reduced from 17% to just 5%, providing an opportunity for parents, students and teachers to stock up on needed school supplies.

 Additionally, from July 1^st to September 30^th, 2025, specific school supplies will benefit from a 0% Discounted VAT rate, giving families extra room in their budgets as they prepare for the new academic year. Approved VAT-registered businesses across the Federation will offer: 5% VAT on tangible goods in stock. Items must be issued or delivered on VAT Day to qualify as pre-orders and items unavailable for immediate delivery do not qualify for the reduced rate.

Guns & ammunition, cigarettes & tobacco products, alcoholic beverages and vehicles will not be included. Persons are asked to note that approved business shall be published on IRD’s website on or before August 15^th, 2025. All approved businesses must submit their VAT Day Sales Report to the Inland Revenue Department on or before September 1^st, 2025. The Concession Sales Schedule applicable to businesses selling school supplies at the 0% Discounted VAT Rate should be submitted to the Inland Revenue Department with the VAT Return for the relevant tax period.
