On Aug. 11^th 2025, the Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ) Authorization Bill, 2025 was passed in the National Assembly.  The Bill sets the stage for designating Special Sustainability Zones or areas developed under strict sustainability, climate resilience, and infrastructure standards, backed by clear rules, transparent governance, and community involvement.

Nevis’ Premier, the Hon. Mark Brantley, in an address on Aug. 25^th about the proposal for a Special Sustainability Zone on Nevis, said:

The proposed zone is situated on the southern coast of Nevis, in the Saddle Hill area. The lands in that area are owned by a large number of private landowners.  He spoke of claims made by the Opposition:

Premier Mark Brantley. Meantime, Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party, the Hon. Dr. Janice Daniel-Hodge, issued this statement on social media following the Premier’s address: “The Premier continues to lie on my name. He continues to attack my integrity, and in his desperation, he sinks deeper and deeper into dishonesty.”

She stated “the Premier slandered my good name and claimed that I sold lands on the southern side of Nevis and pocketed millions. This is absolutely false, and I will not sit on this. I will pursue swift legal action.” NRP’s Leader added “if the Premier can prove anywhere that I have pocketed millions from any land sale, I will resign my seat forthwith. That is how confident I am, because I know the truth.”
