Nevis Hosts First-Ever Seniors Garden Competition

The Social Services Seniors Division in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture on Nevis, recently concluded the island’s first ever Seniors Garden Competition.

 

Open to residents aged 65 and older, the competition saw enthusiastic participation from 22 seniors across the island, each showcasing their green thumbs and love for gardening.

 

At the end of the judging period, Mrs. Omel Roberts-Nolan was awarded First Place for the Most Beautiful Floral Garden, with Ms. Sharmine Jeffers earning Second Place in the same category.

 

In the vegetable category, Mr. Eugene Hendrickson claimed First Place for the Best Vegetable Garden, followed by Ms. Wilma Huggins in Second Place.

 

Further, Ms. Muriel Cromwell Freeman was also recognized for the Most Creative Garden while Ms. Phyllis O’ Flaherty was highlighted as the Eldest Gardener.

 

Nevis’ Minister with responsibilities for Social Empowerment, the Hon. Jahnel Nisbett, gave these remarks on August 22nd at the prize giving ceremony:
