Federal Ministry of Health issues alert on reported cases of HFMD
The Federal Ministry of Health is advising the public of reported cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in the Federation. HFMD is a common viral illness that mainly affects young children and spreads easily in schools and group settings.
Parents and guardians are urged to watch for symptoms such as fever, sore throat, mouth sores, rash on the hands, feet or buttocks, loss of appetite and irritability in infants and toddlers. Children showing these signs should be kept at home and seen by a doctor if symptoms persist or worsen.
To limit the spread, the Ministry recommends frequent handwashing with soap and water, avoiding close contact with infected individuals and disinfecting toys, furniture and electronic devices.
The Ministry of Health says with vigilance, hygiene and cooperation, communities can help protect children and stop further spread of the illness.
