Department of Education Celebrates Graduation of 2024–2025 Induction Course Cohort

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, nineteen educators successfully completed the Department of Education’s 2024–2025 Induction Course. The event was chaired by Education Officer, Mrs. Shenella Joseph-Nisbett.

 

Course Coordinator, Ms. Shenelle Pemberton delivered an overview of the programme, commending the graduates for their dedication and perseverance. She also announced Ms. Desnequa Bartlette as the Valedictorian of the cohort. In her address, Ms. Bartlett delivered an eloquent and thoughtful reflection on the experiences and insights gained throughout the course.

 

Principal Education Officer, Ms. Londa Brown extended congratulations to the graduates, acknowledging their hard work and unwavering commitment to the teaching profession.

 

A significant moment of the ceremony was the symbolic lighting and passing of a torch, representing the transmission of knowledge and responsibility, from Ms. Bartlett to a representative of the incoming 2025–2026 cohort.

 

According to a post by the Department of Education – Nevis, the Induction Course is a structured, one-year in-service training programme designed for first-year teachers. It provides practical, classroom-based training in areas such as lesson planning, assessment strategies, and classroom management.

 

Participants are also required to maintain a professional teaching portfolio, engage in ongoing professional development, and complete a final examination to successfully conclude the programme.
