New Year, New Goals for Students, Says Education Official

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, et. al., Ms. Zahnela Claxton has called for students, parents, and guardians to embrace reflection and effective goal setting for the New Year ahead.

 

She highlighted the importance of reviewing achievements and challenges from 2025 and using those reflections to set meaningful, age-appropriate goals for 2026.

 

It was emphasized that goal setting is a critical life skill, and that children who learn to set clear goals develop responsibility, resilience, and a positive mindset.

 

She outlined practical steps for parents, including allowing children to choose their own goals, understanding the purpose behind them, breaking large goals into smaller steps, planning for obstacles, and writing goals down to increase accountability.

 

The Permanent Secretary also stressed the value of encouragement, celebrating progress, and teaching positive self-talk. Ms. Claxton also made this request:
