On Tuesday January 27th, 2026, Saint Kitts and Nevis defended the significant human rights advances the Federation has achieved over the past three years during its appearance before the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism in Geneva.
The delegation was led by Attorney General and Federal Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, the Hon. Garth Wilkin, accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs, Ms Azilla N. Clarke. Together, they outlined steady progress in institutional reform, access to justice, gender equality, social protection, environmental human rights and the coordination of international obligations within national frameworks.
Several UN Member States commended the country for its constructive engagement and the practical steps taken to strengthen protections for its people, while offering recommendations aimed at further improvement.
These recommendations were welcomed by the Government as part of its continuous reform agenda.
