“Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives”
That was the theme for International Nurses Day 2026, which was celebrated on May 12th and St. Kitts & Nevis joined the world in highlighting the day.
International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12th, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, considered the pioneer of modern nursing, paho.org says.
The day raises awareness of the important role nurses play in society, the contributions and commitments of nurses among the public in providing the best health care services.
Prime Minister and Minister of Health-St. Kitts, the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, said on social media “on International Nurses Day, we honor the dedication, compassion and sacrifice of the nurses of St. Kitts and Nevis and nurses everywhere who continue to serve with strength, professionalism and heart. To every nurse across St. Kitts and Nevis, thank you for your service.”
Meanwhile, Nevis’ Minister of Health, the Hon. Jahnel Nisbett, also said on social media: “we celebrate the compassion, strength and dedication of our nurses who continue to care for our people with patience and professionalism every single day. Thank you for the sacrifices you make…Your service does not go unnoticed.”
