Senator, the Hon.Dr. Joyelle Clarke has supported the Extradition (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and described the legislation as a practical and necessary measure to ensure Saint Kitts and Nevis can effectively respond to modern cross-border crime while preserving the constitutional safeguards that protect every citizen.

She said the amendments are designed to strengthen the Federation’s legal framework in an increasingly interconnected world where criminals frequently cross national borders to evade justice.

The Senator stressed that effective extradition depends on a legal framework capable of supporting international cooperation while upholding the rule of law.

Explaining the purpose of the legislation, Senator Dr. Clarke noted that the amendments modernize the way evidence from requesting states may be presented before the courts without lowering the legal threshold required for extradition proceedings.

The Senator also sought to reassure the public that the proposed amendments do not diminish judicial oversight or weaken constitutional protections.
