The Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) has announced its Inaugural Emancipation Lecture that will be held (today) Thursday, 6 August, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Poinciana Conference Room at the CFBC Main Campus, Burdon Street, Basseterre, St. Kitts.
The lecture marks an addition to the College’s annual programme of public engagement and reflects CFBC’s commitment to cultivating a vibrant collegiate culture by advancing scholarship, encouraging civic engagement, and fostering meaningful dialogue between the College and the wider community.
This landmark event will feature Dr. Cameron Gill, an archaeologist, heritage scholar, and History Lecturer at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC), as the keynote speaker. Known for his work in preserving St. Kitts’ history – from coastal fortification surveys to his role in developing the Fort George Museum – Dr. Gill will deliver the keynote address entitled “Rise Up Together or Sink Separately: Lessons from Our Ancestors.”
His presentation will explore the enduring lessons of emancipation, unity, and collective strength in the Caribbean.
Emancipation Day, which was observed on Aug. 1st, marked the abolition of slavery, in many parts of the Caribbean, Canada, and other regions.
