Nevis’ K-jel Smithen, aka King Kairo, represented the island at the Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Competition on Saturday Aug. 8th.
A total of eight (8) countries participated: Anguilla (the Host Island), Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Maarten, British Virgin Islands (BVI) and United States Virgin Islands (USVI).
Kairo performed third and although he did not cop the 2026 Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch title, Nevis’ Culturama Committee said via Facebook: “Congratulations to our TDC Senior Kaiso Monarch 2026, Kairo, on representing Nevis. While the crown did not come home, we are proud of Kairo…Well done, Kairo.”
Representing St. Kitts was Senior Calypso Tariq “King Drewzy” Drew.
Montserrat’s Keithroy “De Bear” Morson won the competition, 1st Runner-Up: Anguilla’s Roxanne “Queen Roxxy” Webster and 2nd Runner-Up: Leston “King Young Destroyer” Jacobs of Antigua & Barbuda.
