Thirty-seven nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis have been awarded scholarships to pursue higher education in the Republic of China (Taiwan), as both countries deepen their longstanding educational partnership.

The awards were presented on Saturday, August 8^th, 2026, during a ceremony at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort. Twenty-eight recipients received the 2026 Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) scholarships, while nine were awarded scholarships through Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) programme.

Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew used the occasion to announce that St. Kitts and Nevis is working with Taiwan to establish new medical scholarship opportunities for aspiring doctors. The proposed pathway would allow students to study medicine in Taiwan before returning to the Caribbean to complete internships and licensing requirements.

Dr. Drew said the initiative is aimed at addressing the Federation’s need for more doctors and medical specialists while strengthening its healthcare workforce.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Denzil Douglas, Nevis Premier, Mark Brantley and Taiwan’s Ambassador, Edward Ling-Wen Tao.
