Nevis’ Gingerland Secondary School is among regional secondary schools shortlisted in the CARICOM Regional High School Youth in Agriculture Video Competition, an initiative aimed at highlighting student involvement and innovation in agriculture across the Caribbean.

The competition is being coordinated by the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with regional and international agricultural organisations. Agriculture Science teacher, (say So – meesh) Somiche Hozier, spoke with the VON Newsline sharing details about the school’s entry:

Hozier told the VON Newsline that the school is seeking the public’s support:

Ms. Hozier stated that the public’s support could help the school advance its agricultural programme, including plans to refurbish its shade house and introduce more technology.

The competition offers US$1,700 for first place, US$1,300 for second and US$1,000 for third. First place also provides an opportunity to travel to Jamaica for Caribbean Week of Agriculture, scheduled for September 27^th to October 2^nd, 2026.

The school’s four student “agri ambassadors”: Shyhedra Daniel, A’Nije Jones, Kezia Griffin and Sarai Fyfield, are the participants in the initiative.
