This October, the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD) will commemorate International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2026 with a week of activities, under the theme: “Resilience Starts at Home.”
The observance will begin with a church visit on Sunday, October 11th, followed by a staff development session on October 12th and a public outreach campaign on October 13th. Staff excursions to St. Kitts and elsewhere on Nevis are scheduled for October 14th and 15th, respectively.
The week will culminate with a Family Fun Day on Saturday, October 17th, at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park. The community is invited to participate in a range of activities, including cricket, family trivia and domino competitions, with cash prizes available.
Teams of seven can register for the cricket competition for EC$50, while domino competitors pay EC$50. Registration for the family trivia competition is free. Vendors offering food, crafts or entertainment can also participate for EC$100.
The NDMD is encouraging residents to take part and strengthen disaster preparedness at the household level.
