Newly Appointed General Manager of the Nevis Electricity Company Ltd. (NEVLEC), Nelson Ald Stapleton and Civil Engineer and Project Manager of the Ice Land Drilling Company, Mr. Egill (say Eagle) Sigurthosson were guests on last Tuesday’s Let’s Talk Program to sensitize the public on electricity usage, geothermal energy, the increase of Fossil Fuel, the rise in energy consumption and to take questions from the listening audience among others.

This was Mr. Stapleton as he spoke about renewable energy:

Further, Mr. Stapleton said that there is no telling when the fuel prices will decrease, as to why the government is embarking on renewable energy sources on Nevis to assist with the reduction of the fuel surcharge which will lead to the overall benefit to customers.

Stapleton added that Nevis depends 100% on Fossil Fuel, if we lose our fossil fuel base, we will be in the dark. The geothermal project is estimated to take five years. Mr. Eagle also chimed in on the discussion:

Mr. Eagle. Geothermal Energy is heat energy from the earth. Geothermal resources are reservoirs of hot water that exist or are human-made at varying temperatures and depths below the earth’s surface. Wells ranging from a few feet to several miles deep can be drilled into underground reservoirs to tap steam and very hot water that can be brought to the surface for usage.
