Aspire Program to Boost Youth Financial Literacy in St. Kitts and Nevis

Cabinet Secretary of the Federal Government, Dr. Marcus Natta, recently spoke about the Achieving Success through Personal Investment, Resources, and Education (or ASPIRE) Programme.

It combines essential money management education with soft skills training and mindset development to better prepare citizens of 5 to 18 years for long-term success. Also, participants have EC$500 in savings and EC$500 invested in publicly traded shares.

Concerning financial education teachers are currently participating in “train-the-trainer” workshops, with a pilot phase scheduled to begin in November. Interactive tools, including game-based learning like “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” will be used to keep students engaged and program will also develop soft skills such as interview techniques, self-regulation, and conflict resolution.

Further, Dr. Natta emphasized that although only citizens qualify for Aspire, residents benefit from the financial education as well, as it is designed to integrate into existing lesson time, rather than add to teachers’ workloads.

The initiative forms part of a broader government strategy to reduce poverty, encourage entrepreneurship, and build economic resilience by nurturing well-rounded, empowered citizens. Dr. Natta spoke about the timeline for the programme’s expected impact:
