SCASPA (St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority) stated that the relevant authorities are conducting a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident involving the MV Apple Syder in the Basseterre Roadstead on Monday morning, June 29, 2026.

47 persons (41 passengers and 6 crew members) were rescued from the MV Apple Syder. The ferry encountered issues, shortly after departing the ferry terminal in Basseterre, St. Kitts. Then suddenly, it began to sink with its passengers. Fishermen, the crew of Makana Ferry Service and the coast guard, assisted in the rescue effort resulting in no injuries and no deaths recorded.

Additionally, SCASPA said on social media it has “provided the necessary assistance to secure the vessel at the Ferry Terminal.”

Moreover, SCASPA extended its “sincere gratitude to all agencies that responded swiftly and professionally”.

SCASPA remains committed to supporting the ongoing investigation and will provide further updates as information becomes available.
