An autopsy was performed on the body of twenty-three (23)-year-old Kevonne Smithen on Monday Sep. 18th. Smithen was the victim of a fatal wounding on Monday Sep. 11th, which occurred at a gas station on Victoria Road, Basseterre, St. Kitts, between 6:30PM and 7PM.

Officers of the Violent Crime Unit (VCU) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police Force responded to the scene and upon their arrival, saw Smithen of New Road, lying motionless on the ground with a knife lodged in his back and multiple wounds about his body.

Initial inquiries indicate that he was an employee of the gas station and was accosted by two(2) armed assailants while attending to vehicles. The assailants reportedly struck and stabbed him about the body several times before fleeing the scene. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This was SKN’s 21st homicide for 2023. After examining Smithen’s body, Resident Pathologists, Dr Adrian Nuñez and Dr Naudica Phillip, concluded that the cause of death was hypovolemic shock and a stab wound to the anterior chest wall
