Boosting Agriculture Through Smarter Water Management

A major step forward for agriculture in St. Kitts and Nevis is now underway, as the Ministry of Agriculture joins forces with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to strengthen water use and climate resilience in the sector.

From August 4th to 8th, FAO Land and Water Officer Ms. Louise Whiting and Irrigation Specialist Mr. Emiliano Narpe are on a technical mission in the Federation. They are working alongside local stakeholders to assess irrigation systems, review water governance practices and identify key challenges farmers face.

The goal is to develop strategies that improve water efficiency, enhance climate resilience and strengthen food security across both islands.

As part of their visit, the FAO team will also engage directly with farmers, learning firsthand about the issues on the ground and discussing sustainable solutions.

This all comes as part of the Ministry’s commitment to building a smarter, more resilient agriculture sector for the future.
